Love books? Write one!

National Novel Writing Month  (NaNoWriMo) is an annual creative writing project which challenges participants to write a 50,000 word novel between November 1 and 30. Last year, over 300,000 people participated.  This year,  AYWI is joining in, too!

The Atlanta Young Writers Institute invites you to come write your books with us!  In our 6-week NaNoWriMo seminar we will plan, outline, write, and FINISH our novels together.

The AY-WriMo Group will meet every Saturday from 2-4 p.m. from October 20th through November 24th at Decatur High School.

The Seminar will provide:

  • a real-life community of young writers  with whom you can form friendships and share writing tips
  •  workbooks and  activities to help you address issues like plot holes, character development,  and writer’s block
  • fun challenges and games that will keep your novel-ing momentum going and help  you reach your word count goal
  • stickers, buttons and certificates, oh my!

And yes—we will contact your English teacher and ask him/her to consider giving extra credit to the winners.

Age: All Middle and High School-ers welcome

Cost:  Free!

Dates: every Saturday from 2-4 p.m. from October 20th through November 24th

Location: Decatur High School

Announcing AYWI’s Literary Magazine!

Posted by on Aug 14, 2012 in Events | 0 comments

We are thrilled to announce the creation of Lit!, AYWI’s literary magazine!

Lit! exists to provide a platform for young writers through opportunities for publication.  We want to encourage young writers both to hone their craft and to share their works and ideas with others.  Lit! is run by a passionate staff composed entirely of AYWI student members who are themselves young writers.

Lit! will include fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction.  The first issue’s theme is “Beginnings” and submissions will be accepted starting in September.  Specific submission guidelines will be released later this month.

Check back here in the coming weeks for information about the Lit! website, submissions, and deadlines.  Start writing, submit, and look forward to the release of the first issue in November!
